What a silly thing to do...
11 March 2010. Manchester United won the game versus A.C Milan and get through to the next round of Champions League. The game started around 3.45a.m (local time) and yes, I was there in front of the T.V set watched my hero Rooney scored twice in that game. And yes, the T.V set is at Mamak stall since T.V set at my place doesn’t have astro sport channel subscription. Yes again, I have to wake up around 4.00 am wash my face, grab my wallet and walk about 5 minutes from my home to that stall. Yes continue, it was cold, annoying bugs, and lousy Nescafe tarik I have.
NO... it’s not a silly thing to do.
For time to time, people around me keep asking what do I get from watching football game every week, even sometimes in early morning. What do I get from supporting my favourite team: Manchester United F.C? If it national team that I support, that will be understandable. If it local club, that might be a good reason to watch every game they have. To support a foreign football club and watch their game in early morning, somehow that been label as a silly thing to do. For people who still think so, this could be a good answer for you.
Do you like to ride rollercoaster? That’s the same amount of adrenaline pumping into your body when Rooney is about taking the penalty shootout. Do you like to go for fishing? The feeling of finally hook the fish is the same as your team score the winning ball at the final minute of the game. Crying when your favourite AF student have been voted out? That’s how devastating you feel when your team lose the important game. Horror movie really wake you up? That’s how it is when your team are chasing the goal. How it feel when your favourite rock band makes a tour near you? It feels same as the team come to play at your near stadium. OR maybe you are live theatre fans? It about the same with watching the live football match; the plot, the suspense, the conflict or even the hero and the villain. Plus it doesn’t have a script and you can’t predict how the ending will and sometimes it is a sad ending.
Some fans give everything to enjoy the feeling of watching football game. They paint their face, walk a miles to the stadium, queue a long lines to pay at Mamak counter or simply wear the same team jersey every week. If you still think that another level of stupidity, try to put it this way, each time you see fans crying because their team lose, imagine how joyful they will feel when the team is win. It simply as the more you give in the more you will get from it. The harder you cry when your team lose, the more you laugh when the team win – well sometimes some of them are still crying when the team win.
Fine, there are lots of other thing that can trigger the adrenaline rush or the happy tears or the suspense or whatever good feeling you can think of. But when the last time you experience those things?
Me, ...every weekend :D
